Handstand form check - can't figure out what's wrong

Been working on my freestanding handstand for about 3 months now. I can hold chest-to-wall for 60 seconds no problem, but when I try freestanding I can barely get 5 seconds before falling.

I feel like I'm doing everything right: - Fingers spread and pressing into ground - Shoulders elevated (pushing through) - Looking between my hands - Trying to keep hollow body

But something is off. I either fall back towards my feet or overbalance and have to bail.

Can anyone spot what might be wrong from this description? I'll try to post a video soon but wanted to get some initial thoughts.

Without seeing a video, here are the most common issues I see: 1. Hip position - Many people have their hips behind their hands. Your hips should be DIRECTLY over your wrists. Think about stacking: wrists -> shoulders -> hips -> feet. 2. Entry inconsistency - How are you entering? If you're kicking up differently each time, you'll get different results. Practice the same entry every single time. 3. Over-reliance on wall - Chest-to-wall is great for shoulder strength but doesn't teach balance. Add back-to-wall kick-ups and "toe pulls" (come off wall for 1-2 seconds, return). 4. Fear of falling - This is huge. If you don't know how to bail safely, you'll subconsciously prevent yourself from finding the balance point. Practice pirouette and forward roll bails until they're automatic. Post that video and I'll give you specific feedback!

Adding to the great advice above: where exactly is your weight in your hands? You should feel about 60-70% of the pressure in your fingertips (especially the base of your index and middle finger). If you're feeling it mostly in your palm, you've already lost the ability to make micro-corrections. Think of your fingers as the brakes. If you start falling towards your back (over-balancing), you press hard with fingers. If you start falling towards your feet (under-balancing), you ease off finger pressure. This "finger correction" is what gives you those extra seconds of hold time.
